Mystery & discovery
Esmerelda
Some quests begin with a strange visitor, an old secret, or a question that demands a closer look.
Player Guide
Quests are small adventures set by the people you meet in Insomnia: a problem to solve, a place to reach, something lost to recover, or someone who needs your help.
Play InsomniaThe basic loop
Walk the world, read rooms carefully, and talk to its inhabitants. When a character has work for you, hear them out, take the task, then return when it is done. A quest is a compact piece of the world with a beginning, a challenge, and a reward.
How a quest works
Explore towns, roads, guilds and stranger places. Characters with an unfinished quest for you are marked [Q] in the room description.
Use look <name> and then quest while standing with them. Their quest list tells you what is available; quest <name> gives the briefing.
When you are ready, type quest start <name>. Follow the clues, travel, investigate, fight, fetch, rescue, or otherwise solve the problem.
Go back to the quest giver and use quest end <name>. A completed quest awards experience and quest points.
People make the world move
Mystery & discovery
Some quests begin with a strange visitor, an old secret, or a question that demands a closer look.
Practice & challenge
Others ask you to prove yourself: learn a skill, face a hazard, or put your adventuring tools to use.
Travel & a good turn
A favour can send you across the land: recover something precious, check on a friend, or help put things right.
These are examples, not a checklist. The best way to find quests is to keep exploring and speak to people.
What might a quest ask?
Recover a lost item, carry a message, or bring back the right thing from a dangerous place.
Follow a clue, inspect a forgotten corner of the world, and work out what happened.
Survive a hostile route, defeat a threat, or use the skills your character is learning.
Escort a companion, solve a local problem, or answer a call for aid.
Long-term progress
Every completed quest pays experience and quest points (QP). Experience helps your character grow; quest points are permanent credit for the adventures you have completed. They are added to your running total, so they show the breadth of your character’s journey over time.
Use quests to see available work, its giver, and the experience and QP on offer. Add quests --complete when you want to look back over completed adventures.
