The basic loop is:

Some materials come from dangerous creatures instead of room resources.
Raw hides, for example, can be won from some jungle beasts.
Room resources recover after a short time, so a picked-over seam, branch
or vine patch may need a minute or two before it can be worked again.
Better-grade materials improve the quality of the finished work. Crafted
weapons, armour, tools and components are real permanent items. They can be
used, given, traded, or sold to other players. Ordinary shopkeepers do not
buy crafted goods as routine stock; the Artisans' Exchange handles crafted
trade and selected tool plans.
Named crafted items are cosmetic but permanent. The name must be unique,
must use ordinary printable words, and must still include the base item word:
for example, craft iron spear named the witchbane spear. The long description
still records the underlying recipe, maker, quality, and materials.
